So, what should you expect in the new Facebook Page layout 2014?
“The only thing constant is change.” ~Francois de la Rochefoucauld
This seems especially true with Facebook, right? :)
Well, they’ve moved our cheese again!
Prelude To A New Facebook Page Layout
Just days before announcing the new Facebook Page layout, Facebook announced the update of the news feed. Good news – Basically, the desktop version will now look the same as the mobile version. With this comes a new font, and bigger, more plush photos and images – Nice if you are using Facebook with Instagram and share your blog content.
So far, just cosmetic for the Facebook user, but stay tuned – This will be relevant as you read and scroll down the page…
New Facebook Page Layout 2014: What To Expect
Did you ever wish your Facebook Page was one-column, instead of two?
Hope Facebook would come up with an easier way for your fans to reach your best content?
If you answered yes to either of those, you will probably be happy about the new Facebook Page layout!
Lets take a brief video tour together…
While you may have been bracing yourself for change, you might find that new Facebook Page layout a pleasant surprise.
Summing Up The New Facebook Page Layout 2014 For Business
1) More information easier for Facebook Page admins.
2) The left column is all about your business brand!
3) The right column is a pretty nifty news feed of your status updates.
We need to remember that only about 2% of fans ever make it to the Facebook Page, unless there is a specific strategy to drive fans to the page. While we need to have a good visual brand presentation, the majority of interaction between user and Facebook Page is in the news feed.
Also with these changes, the “Pages To Watch” feature will allow Page admins more options within the insights tools. Make a list of Facebook pages similar to your brand’s page, and monitor their progress to adjust your strategies to stay ahead of your competition.
New Facebook Page Layout Dimensions
Historically, with a new Facebook Page layout, size mattered. However, this time around, Facebook merely adjusted the visual presentation to be more like our Facebook Profiles.
Meaning: Most of your branded cover banners and logo avatars will still look great!
Even better news: Your Facebook Tabs will be available in the “More” drop down menu, and also on the left side bar of your Facebook Page. Custom Facebook App icon dimensions will stay the same, 111 x 74.
Not so bad, right? :)
New Facebook Page Layout 2014 – Surprises
This first one should really be no surprise…
In rolling out the new Facebook Page layout 2014, Facebook Page default settings will sometimes be re-set by Facebook, as CyberActive Services found.
They had actually hidden some of their posts, and when their page appeared with the new layout, they saw posts with the “Facebook Oops” graphic on their Facebook Page. The visual example is here.
Be sure to check and re-set your Facebook Page settings when your brand receives the new Facebook Page layout 2014.
The second surprise you should really…LOVE!
See that white strip at the top of that “Facebook Oops” graphic? A sweet little treat from Facebook — If the potential fan has not liked a page, the white “like strip” floats with them as they scroll down a Facebook Page, encouraging them to like it!
How many Facebook Page owners want to like that one twice? :)
Transitioning To The New Facebook Page Layout 2014
Facebook will gradually roll out the new Facebook Page layout. Facebook Page admins should watch their Admin Panel for a notice that looks like this:
Once you click to reserve your spot on the wait list, you will see a notice on your screen that looks like this:
So, Facebook did move our cheese. Seemingly to the table with all the best choices!
From the Facebook Page admin perspective, it will be interesting to take a closer look “under the hood” in the Admin Panel of the New Facebook layout, and see how it functions over time.
