Let’s improve upon the concept of a blogroll by not just listing sites, but dynamically pulling recent headlines from them, and using some fun jQuery animation.

Functional CSS Tabs Revisited
The idea of “CSS Tabs” has been around for a long time. If you Google it, a lot of what you get is styled CSS tabs, but less stuff on the building of an actually functional tabbed area. At least, functional in the sense as we think of tabbed areas today: click a tab, see a new content area with no page refresh.

Organic Tabs
Have you ever seen a tabbed content area in a sidebar that was a little “jerky”? The jerkiness can be caused by a bunch of things, like the content in the tabbed areas are of different heights, or maybe the way the switch happens the current one is hidden for a brief second before the new one shows up and the content below it jumps up and back down quickly. For lack of a better term, I’m calling tabs that behave more smoothly organic tabs.

EasyCFM DHTML Tab
When I set out to design a tabbed interface generator, my primary goal was to create an interface that would load all the data in each tab in a single page request. This would allow the user to click on each tab in the interface and instantly see the data on that tab without waiting for it to load. This requirement necessitated the use of DHTML.
Bascially, DHTML or Dynamic HTML, uses a combination of HTML, CSS, and Javascript to alter the display in the browser after the page has been generated.

jQuery Tabbed Interface / Tabbed Structure Menu Tutorial
Nowadays, a lot of websites are using tab based content as a way to save spaces in a webpage. I have seen a lot of wordpress websites using a tabbed interface for its category, posts, comments and random posts content. It’s a good “space-saver” and if used it correctly, it can boost your website usability as well. Right, first of all, we need to have the ideas and the design structure for this tabbed interface.

Vista Aero Buttons Menu
This menu consists of a row of independent, Vista aero looking CSS buttons, and departs from the typical list based menu structure. Each button appears initially faded out slightly via CSS opacity, then brought back to full opacity during the “hover” state. The caveat for this menu is the fixed height of each button based on the graphic interface, hence isn’t ideal if the buttons’ font size is changed from the default.

This clean CSS horizontal menu contains tabs with text that shift downwards slightly when the mouse rolls over it. Note that the rounded corners effect is currently only visible in Firefox (and future CSS3 browsers).
