Whether you are searching for the most effective keywords for a PPC campaign, optimizing for a blog post, or even creating content for your website, having data numbers will always give you the upper hand.
But what key words should you focus on? Are there words you should fight for or should you focus on words that are much easier to rank for?
Let’s find out. We fired up Rank Tracker to use their keyword research component, which is designed to give you an edge in your optimization strategy. Here’s five steps to find the most effective keywords.
Step 1: Create or Open a Project
First, open Rank Tracker and either create a new project, or open one you’ve already started.
Once you enter in your website URL, you have the chance to type in some of the broader keywords you are optimizing for. After this is done, it’s possible to discover more keywords you may have overlooked.
Step 2: Find Suggested Keywords
The Suggestion Tool from Rank Tracker actually has 17 different options of where to pull data from. Google Keyword Planner is the recommend first choice. If you choose this option, be ready to enter your AdWords information.
In next screen, you can choose the keywords you’d like to implement as part of your campaign so they can be analyzed. Simply go down the list and check the words you want to analyze based upon their competitiveness and effectiveness.
Step 3: Select the Keywords to Analyze
On this screen, you are given a list of a several hundred keywords. By default, they will all be selected. You can manually examine all the words before proceeding. Rank Tracker also allows you to uncheck as words you don’t want to use as well. I found this easier as I could then go down the list and choose the keywords that made the most sense for my project.
Step 4: Check the Keyword Efficiency Index or (KEI)
The Keyword Efficiency Index gives you the “red light, green light” to help you judge your keywords at a glance. The green color lets you know this word iss probably worth competing for. Ranking high will make it more likely to bring in high volumes of traffic to your site, depending on competition.
If you are searching for keywords as part of a PPC campaign, there is another useful feature:
The SEO and PPC analysis tab will show you the Cost Per Click for the keywords you have chosen. This is a screen you will want to utilize when making your keyword choices as well, as it helps gauge how many others are also using it.
Step 5: Use the Keyword Difficulty Tool
The Keyword Difficulty Tool offers quite a bit of insight. For one, it lets you know if you have a snowball’s chance of ranking for a keyword. However, the real advantage is in seeing how much potential traffic you’d earn for ranking #1. This information can be a powerful incentive to support expanding your (or a client’s) budget.
These reports offer plenty of other extra information for your clients as well, which can help them understand why you chose the specific keywords for their strategy. You can really show them how certain words might help their business and which words don’t offer a solid ROI.
This is just an overview of how Rank Tracker can help you in your keyword research. I highly suggest giving it a try to see how it can help your business grow online.
